Zero & Negative Calorie Foods June 10, 2011 |
| Marilyn and I hope you're well and enjoying adding Nature's Super Foods to your diet!
Today we thought we'd share with you a little information about zero and negative calorie foods.
Zero & Negative Calorie Foods Although all foods contain calories. Some foods take so much energy to digest that your body actually burns them up in the process of consuming them. These are called zero calorie foods. Still other amazing super foods take so much energy to digest that you actually lose weight by eating them! These are known as negative calorie foods. Sometimes just getting a quick jump into losing weight is enough to give a person the encouragement to continue dieting. Dieting is difficult at best, so undergoing a dramatic weight loss of six to twelve pounds in a week or two, can often give a dieter the boost they need to continue on in a successful diet program. Zero or negative calorie diets like 'The Cabbage Soup Diet' or 'The Grapefruit Diet' are based on this principle. Zero and negative calorie foods are indeed out there! These are super foods that when consumed, actually use so much energy being digested, that they cause your body to burn enough calories to offset the calories that they contain. High fiber foods generally take a large amount of energy to digest so it is little surprise that it's mostly specific super fruits and super vegetables that have managed to make the zero or negative calorie food lists. This makes sense as these foods tend to have a higher fiber count than other foods. It's this high fiber content within these foods that causes you to lose weight when you consume them. When you dine on these foods you actually burn more than you consume. These high fiber foods take your body that much time and energy to digest! So What Are These Wonder Foods? Use seasonings and spices that won't add extra calories to your meals such as: Salt, Pepper, Ginger And Garlic! Use flavor enhancers that won't add any extra calories to your meal. Flavor your food naturally and don't forget to diet responsibly. In other words, don't get carried away with your diet plan! So What Are These Super Foods? Well, here's the list; Asparagus, apples, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cranberry, cantaloupe, carrots, celery, chicory, cauliflower, cucumber, dandelion, endive, watercress, garlic, grapefruit, green beans, honeydew, hot chili peppers, lemon, lime, lettuce, mango, onion, orange, papaya, peach, pineapple, radish, raspberries, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, tangerines, turnip, watermelon and zucchini. Just a few examples of negative calorie foods are as follows: An average tomato will contain approximately 26 calories but it'll take you 60 to digest it, amounting in a 34 calorie loss each time you dine on it. A stick of celery contains only 6 calories, but it'll take you 50 to digest it, giving you a loss of 46. One hundred grams of broccoli has about 25 calories, but will cause you to burn up 80 consuming it, for a loss of 55. Use Flavor Enhancers That Won't Add Any Extra To Your Meal: When you're dieting, foods or salads don't have to be bland. You can avoid high calorie sauces and still have tongue tingling flavor in your meals. These taste enhancing sauces have zero or negative calories yet contain a ton of flavor when they're used to season your food: Hot pepper sauce, lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice and mustard. For a spice that will actually cause you to lose weight by increasing your metabolism, use Cayenne pepper. It's known for its metabolism boosting abilities. Mix Cayenne pepper into your basic yellow mustard to create a hot tasty mustard that'll also serve to increase your weight loss potential. Flavor Your Food Naturally Don't Forget To Diet Responsibly: When using these zero calorie foods for dieting, don't forget the importance of protein in your diet plan. The ideal way to use these zero calorie foods to your advantage, is to include more of them into your basic living plan, and insure that you consume them on a regular basis. For quick weight loss or for a more rigid diet plan, set aside days to incorporate only zero calorie foods into. Eat only zero calorie foods for one or two days a week and then eat your regular foods for the remainder of the week. This irregular form of dieting will not only help you reduce your weight, but it'll also serve to trick your body into not recognizing that it is losing weight, and this may prevent that oh so dreaded 'diet plateau' from occurring.
