Concern: Athletes Foot
Athletes-foot is a fungal infection that usually thrives in warm, damp places.
The fungus, Tinea pedis, grows between the toes, on top of the feet, on toenails and even between the fingers.
White patches, scaly patches, and redness are all indicative of this ailment.
Symptoms usually include itching, burning, and stinging.
The fungus can be found in public showers and locker rooms, indoor swimming pools and health clubs, and it's very contagious.
Contact with shoes or socks containing the fungus, wet floors, or exercise equipment (remember it can live between fingers too) can spread it.
The best way to prevent this ailment is with good hygiene.
This means keeping the feet cool and dry.
After a bath or shower, it's important to thoroughly dry between your toes.
Here are some practical tips to keep your feet happy and healthy:
Keep your feet clean, dry, and cool.
Whenever possible, take off your shoes to "air out" your feet.
Clean your feet daily with soap and water.
Always dry well between your toes.
Use an absorbent powder such as talcum powder or aluminum chloride powder.
Wear absorbent socks (e.g., made out of cotton or wool).
Avoid tight-fitting footwear, since sweaty feet provide ideal conditions for fungal growth.
Change your socks after exercising or after any excess sweating.
Our Remedy: Honey
Why it works:
Honey is an excellent, yet natural antiseptic.
It can help reduce inflammation of athletes-foot, inhibit the spread of infection and moisturize dry, itchy patches.
It's also a great remedy for acne ailments!
Just apply honey to the affected area and leave on as long as possible, the longer the better.
The more unprocessed the honey, the better.
A good source is your local farmers market or health food store.
How to use it:
Mix equal parts honey and sugar.
Scrub the affected areas with the mixture to remove dead skin and moisturize.
Rinse and pat dry.
You can also apply a small amount of honey directly to the affected area and allow to dry.
We've probably all had this ailment at some point in our lives and I know it can be quite an irritant, but this is a very good remedy, so sit back, follow the directions and in no time it'll be virtually forgotten.
Honey is also the only food known to man that will never deteriorate.
If your honey hardens, place the container in a pot of boiled water and in no time it will be soft, supple and good as new.Tweet
